Ok, so yesterday didn't happen, so I'm just going to pretend that it didn't exist. On to today!
Today is a rather special day for people like me and my roommate. It's the day that actors are awarded for being someone else on stage. That's right...It's the day of the Tony Awards.
So in honor of the famed award, the song today is from the musical Company, in the high hopes that the person who sang this song most recently on Broadway wins a Tony this year...and the anti-Esparza does not...

This has to be one of my favorite musical songs, and one of the best parts of it is how Raul Esparza sings it. He's just fantastic! Not to mention that everyone in the cast was playing an instrument throughout the entire show.
Now, I would not say that Company is my favorite show, that would probably go to Les Miserables. I just can't get past the repetitive (Bobby, Bobby, Bobby baby...etc.) as you get to preview in the clip I put up. But, if you can get past that, the actual plot, message, and story line are VERY good. My roommate performed in this musical with the Starkville Community Theater and did a fantastic job with it. I think I learned more about the musical than I ever needed to know, and had most of the songs memorized just from hearing it in her car, but I still can say I like the musical. I would say this could definitely be considered a Sondheim masterpiece.

Day 11 "Kashmir"

This is a really incredible song. Even if you take out the lyrics, the main guitar riff is enough to make this song amazing. I've been a fan of Led Zeppelin for a long time, and over the past year, I've gotten to know some of their music better. One of the many great qualities of their music that stands out to me are the lyrics. From what I've heard, Robert Plant was a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings series and has written songs about it...such as "The Battle of Evermore" - "The ringwraiths ride in black," "Rambling' on" -"Cause in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair. But Golem and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her," and I noticed in this song - "To speak with elders of the gentle race, the world has seldom seen." Granted, it is a bit of a stretch on the last one, but I always picture elves during that part of the song.

Day 9 "And Your Bird Can Sing"
Well, originally I was going to post a song that had something to do with temperature...since our AC decided to die yesterday...But then a little bird decided to chirp really loud next to our door, so I thought I'd do a tribute to it.

This is definitely one of my favorite Beatles songs...not my absolute favorite, but one of my favorites. It's from the album Revolver which is also one of my favorite albums. The reason why I love this song is just the way the song sounds...and the lyrics. They're kind of fun. As with most Beatles' songs, George's guitar parts are perfect in the sense that they're powerful enough to make a point, yet not too over powering where John's voice is less intensified.
I'm not doing this song near enough justice on here, but it's almost impossible to do any Beatles' song justice in any way. I will say that this song is proof that sure, all the #1 hits of the Beatles were great, but there's so much more on their albums that are even better in some ways.

I'm having trouble finding the music video. It's pretty out there and I wish everyone could see it. Vh1 classic is letting me down by not letting me watch any videos at all...so I'll just go with my discussion.
The song is out there, no debating that. But it's just so much fun and it's one of those songs that I love to play when I'm bored out of my mind or driving to or from Huntsville / school. It has been quoted in everything from The Drew Carey show to Muppets Tonight, with Kermit singing and the critics saying "same as it ever was." Go figure...I can find it...
The Talking Heads deserve a place on this list, not necessarily because they're the best musicians, but mostly because they did something different...I know a lot of people think all 80's music sounds the same, but I honestly don't feel that is the case. I feel that the 80's was a time where there was an explosion of color and fun music that wanted to be different than the norm...which I feel that David Byrne succeeded in, even with his crazy, funky dance.
